Diggity Doughnuts will become Nana’s Doughnuts in just a few weeks. Ambergre Sloan has sold her vegan doughnut business to Alan and Leslie Berger, owners of Asheville’s vegan restaurant, Plant. But the good news for Diggity lovers is Berger assures us that not only is Sloan’s classic doughnut recipe still going to be used, it’s getting an ingredient upgrade.
“The doughnuts are going to be entirely made from organic ingredients,” says Alan. “We’re sourcing a new kind of soy milk that has no palm oil in it and we’re getting a chocolate that isn’t farmed through slave labor.” It’s all part of the Bergers’ social justice commitment to organic ingredients that are as delicious as they are ethically sourced.
Nana’s Doughnuts will also serve a variety of organic drinks including a sweet tea and Kombucha in addition to Charleston Coffee Roasters’ organic coffee.
There are other changes underway too for the 616 Meeting St. storefront. The hours for one thing. “Unlike Diggity Doughnuts which opened at 10, we’ll be open at 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and starting at 8 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays,” says Alan.
The couple hopes to have Nana’s Doughnut’s open by the second week of July.
